MTI's 1st Presentation
Evaluation and Treatment in Wound Care - Rehabilitation Approach

Course Description
This course is designed to outline techniques for the wound care physical therapy.

MTI Tokyo has held the first lecture in April, 2002. We invited Rosaline Velasco PT, a physical therapist from Chicago, and held a lecture about treatment and practice of Wound Care in the US. MTI Tokyo held this lecture at Saitama physical therapist association western part block study meeting, an international medical welfare university and Tokyo Seinen Kan. Total of 200 participants attended this lecture.

Unfortunately, wound care has rarely done by physical therapists in Japan. However, the need is really high especially among patients with spinal cord injuries who are suffering from a pressure ulcer.

In the US, wound care is advanced and it is specialized by physical therapists. Rosaline Velasco is a clinical specialist of wound care in Physical therapy and she has contributed to establish a wound care team at clinic and hospital.

The present conditions around Japanese physical therapists are difficult to do wound care because of various problems such as the medical law, the health insurance system and education. However, it is not impossible to do wound care for Japanese physical therapists. Participants of her lecture learned the technique for evaluation and treatment. She also provided tips to establish a wound care team for Japanese Physical Therapists.

We believe that is like a grass-root movement… Participants who took her lecture will change wound care and improve physical therapy in Japan.
